Advocacy

Mothers & More believes in recognizing family-friendly businesses (as workplaces or as places to visit). Additionally, our chapter promotes various programs that educate us on a variety of issues. There are also opportunities to participate in email loop discussions on issues impacting mothers and get involved in efforts to promote the value of the work mothers do and eliminate policies and attitudes that unfairly impact mothers as caregivers.

Charities

Throughout the year, our chapter makes contributions to local charities, families in need, and local shelters.

The Milwaukee West Chapter supports The Women’s Center Inc. in Waukesha, WI as our primary charity. We host multiple drives throughout the year to support the women who use their services. The Women’s Center is an independent, non-profit human service agency founded in 1977. Its mission is to provide safety and support to women and their families and to facilitate their development. The center provides free and comprehensive services designed to address the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse.

Women's Center Holiday Gift Boutique (2011 drive)

Once again we will be donating items for the Women's Center Holiday Gift Boutique. This event offers the opportunity for the kids at the shelter to choose a gift for their mom from donated items. This gift may well be the only present their mother receives this year.

These items need to be new. Some examples of items include:

• Bath gels, lotions, soaps, body sprays, towels, bathrobes, etc.
• Small kitchen gadgets, towels, etc.
• Calendars, journals, organizers, pens, etc.
• Small holiday decorations
• Books, coffee, tea, jewelry
• Small gift cards to Walmart, Pick n Save and Walgreens

Please avoid items that are sized as usually the children do not know their mother's size. They also could use baskets or spools of ribbon for wrapping. If you have items to donate either bring them to a Tuesday night meeting or contact Lisa Arsac at carsac@wi.rr.com to make arrangements for a pick up.

The deadline for donations will be Monday, November 21, 2011.

Power of a Purse Campaign

Donate a purse to women in need! Mothers & More Power of a Purse Mother's Day Campaign is designed to raise awareness of mothers' economic issues through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers in need. The Milwaukee West Chapter will be collecting and filling purses for The Women's Center in Waukesha and Sojourner Family Peace Center of Milwaukee. Donations to fill the purses can include tissue packs, mini hand sanitizers, lipstick, mascara, small hairbrush, small mirror, feminine personal items, gum or breath mints, candy and coupons. Please bring your donation to an upcoming meeting or one of the following community collection sites:

• Starbuck's on Bluemound and Moorland
• Starbuck's in New Berlin on National and Moorland
• All 'Bout Children Preschool in Brookfield
• Calvary Lutheran Church (across from SJV)
• Castle of the Arts Dance Studio in New Berlin
• MRA in Waukesha
